Finder Integration

Certum Draft integrates with Finder, allowing you to create new documents directly from a right-click menu.

Using the Services Menu

When you right-click on a matter folder in Finder, you can create a new document without opening Certum Draft first.

Steps

  1. In Finder, navigate to a matter folder (or its "Working Documents" subfolder)
  2. Right-click on the folder
  3. Select Services from the context menu
  4. Click New Certum Document

Certum Draft will open (or come to the front if already running) with the New Document wizard ready for that matter.

What Folders Work

You can right-click on:

  • The main matter folder (e.g., "2025-00042 Smith & Jones")
  • The "Working Documents" subfolder
  • The "Correspondence" subfolder
  • Any other subfolder within a matter

Certum Draft will automatically find the parent matter folder.

First Time Setup

The Services menu should appear automatically after you first run Certum Draft. If you don't see it:

  1. Open Certum Draft at least once
  2. Quit and reopen Finder (or log out and back in)
  3. The service should now appear in the Services menu

Enabling Services

If the service doesn't appear, check that it's enabled:

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Go to Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Services
  3. Look for Files and Folders
  4. Ensure New Certum Document is ticked

Troubleshooting

Service Not Appearing

If "New Certum Document" doesn't appear in the Services menu:

  • Make sure you've run Certum Draft at least once
  • Try logging out and back in
  • Check the service is enabled in System Settings (see above)
  • Ensure you're right-clicking on a folder, not a file

"Not a Matter Folder" Error

If you see this error, the folder you selected doesn't appear to be a matter folder. Certum Draft looks for:

  • A matter.json file in the folder
  • Or standard matter subfolders like "Working Documents" or "Correspondence"

Make sure you're selecting a folder that was created by Certum Draft.

App Doesn't Come to Front

If Certum Draft doesn't come to the front when you use the service:

  1. Check if Certum Draft is running in the Dock
  2. Click the Dock icon to bring it forward
  3. The New Document wizard should be waiting

Tips

  • Quick access: Pin your Matters folder to the Finder sidebar for fast navigation
  • Keyboard shortcut: You can assign a keyboard shortcut to the service in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Services
